TCC and JPNSI in NYC
The TCC recently completed a field trip to New York City for our own project team and staff and board members of Jane Place Neighborhood Sustainability Initiative (JPNSI). The trip was built around a series of site visits to existing and under construction affordable housing developments with applicable lessons for our own work in New Orleans. We were graciously hosted by staff from the Urban Homesteading Assistance Board, Umbrella House Co-op, Dattner Architects, and the Fortune Society, each of whom shared their insights with a specific housing development. This trip was part of our ongoing schematic design and development assistance work with JPNSI that is funded by grants from the Surdna Foundation and Johnson Controls, Inc. Being exposed to some more ambitious and design and program driven affordable housing development such as that which we saw in New York is an important step in pushing these agendas back home in New Orleans.
