Oil Spill - Ways to Help

<Oil Spill - Ways to Help

The British Petroleum Oil Spill in the Gulf of Mexico has us all feeling concerned and a bit helpless. If you are wanting to get involved or just want information here’s a list of events, volunteer opportunities, and resources that our project partners have been working on. If you still don’t know what to do ride a bike, shave your head (see below), and try to kick a plastic addiction.

New Orleans Food and Farm Network :
NOFFN is helping provide volunteers to support those in the affected areas of the oil spill. Currently, NOFFN is providing volunteer support to Second Harvest to prepare food boxes for those in the affected area. Visit the NOFFN website for information on what food you can donate and where to bring it. And if you want to help stuff boxes you can do that too.

Bayou Rebirth :
Bayou Rebirth’s website is a great source for volunteer opportunities and has been promoting a Hair Drive. Over 200,000 pounds of hair has been sent to the Gulf Coast region to stuff boom’s with (because hair is good at collecting oil). To find out more about cutting and donating your hair, or the hair of your pets click here
to email about volunteer opportunites: oilresponse@bayourebirth.org
